The development of cycle-friendly policies calls for a proper grasp of user needs in terms of infrastructure, especially with the aim of reducing the number and consequences of road accidents in which cyclists are involved. This publication is the fruit of an in-depth analysis of the accident statements concerning the personal injuries sustained by cyclists on the regional roads of the Brussels Capital Region, in order to fully understand the causes of these accidents and the circumstances in which they occurred. Recommendations for each type of accident described have been put forward regarding infrastructural development and/or awareness communication to limit the likelihood of the same type of accident occurring again.
