This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes over 80 abstracts of some of the published literature (reports, conference papers, books and journal articles) on cycling safety, including cyclist behaviour, road safety training for cyclists, prevention of injury to cyclists, design and effectiveness of safety helmets, and the reporting of cycle accidents. Further subjects covered include the design and implementation of cycle lanes, cycle paths and cycle route networks in many parts of the world, and various traffic engineering issues including junction design and signal timing in relation to the cyclist. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library database between 1993 and 1996. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database. The previous issue of this title, CT 2, covered abstracts of publications added to the Database between 1989 and 1992.
