Abstract

The objectives of the project presented were to reveal cyclist accident causation factors and to recommended countermeasures. The study concentrated on analysis of fatal accidents of the most common situations and involving children or elderly cyclists since these groups are overrepresented in the accident statistics. A total of 89 accidents have been analysed. The behaviour involved road users were assessed and the probable factors contributing to or causing the accident detected. Five cases and two typical situations are presented as examples of the method used. The countermeasures proposed are also presented.
