Abstract

This short article reviews recent evidence that cycling is second only to motorcycling as the most dangerous form of travel per mile. A brief summary of recent medical evidence which shows that pedal cyclists are more likely to suffer a head injury than motorcyclists, and that those dying suffer, on average, more severe head injuries that motorcyclists who die is also provided. A case is made for pedal cyclists to wear helmets.
