Abstract

Tyres fitted metal studs to improve traction and resistance to skidding on snow or ice are becoming more common. This report compares the advantages to be gained from the use of studded tyres with the increased wear of the road surface. Studded tyres give better grip than ordinary tyres on ice but have little advantages on snow. Chains are more effective on both ice and snow.
