As the mean purpose of street lighting is to allow the traffic to function in nighttime in as far as possible the same manner as in daytime with regard to safety and capacity it is evident that street lighting installations with Dangerous Points in which a pedestrian can "disappear"must be considered in adequate from a safety point of view. A street lighting installation is always the result of a teamwork between the road building engineer and the illuminating engineer, but in spite of their mutual purpose: a traffic safety road, it is if the intercommunication leaves a great deal to be desired with regard to the important link between the two departments: the character of the road surface. And yet this is of very great importance as to the possibility of seeing objects sufficiently clearly. It is the purpose of this article to investigate how a road surface influences a street lighting installation, and based hereupon to draw conclusions about the direction in which the development could be led with regard to future roads, and with regard to improvements of existing roads to avoid Dangerous Points as much as possible, and here by to increase traffic safety in night driving.
