The South Yorkshire Public Transport Executive (SYPTE) identifies and responds to the travel needs of the people of South Yorkshire. An important element of SYPTE's service delivery is reliable customer travel information. Analysis confirms that maps are critical components of this information.Further, maps that succeed in making sense of complex transport networks must be well designed and show current information. SYPTE has not only conceived and designed a family of complementary travel information products,but developed a highly automated, data-driven system to produce and maintain them. Information Technology (IT) plays a lead role in the operation and continued development of this system.
