Abstract

The work area Transmodel within DRIVE II project EuroBus has set out to solve a practical problem in the Public Transport Industry: the difficulty for operators of integrating application products supplied by different suppliers. Transmodel is a reference data model for the public transport industry across Europe. It has been welcomed by a range of operators who have recognized its potential and is already being consulted by organisations setting up new systems. However, the model needs further support and extensions in a number of respects. It will be particularly useful in the promotion of integrated transport strategies, to extend the work to domains other than that of Public Transport. Similar techniques are now being started in some DRIVE Task Forces. For example, CARTRIDGE is preparing to define the interface between Public Transport and Driver Guidance Systems, to enable functions which include Public Transport information with driver information.
