Abstract

In 1967, which are the latest data available, about one-hundred million licensed drivers operated almost 100 million registered motor vehicles, transporting people and goods about 970 billion miles. Operation of this system in 1967 produced 13.700.000 accidents from which 53.100 fatalities resulted.
