Abstract

The consequences of the considerable increase of car use in the Netherlands are described. The steps to be taken by the national government with regard to the selection behaviour of transport mode and the traditional models on which these steps usually are based, are discussed. A way to improve these models by taking into account a new determinant, the level of service, is presented.
