This study uses the German method to assess public transport investments for a public transport project in the Dutch province of South Holland. Using this method, it is possible to assess social benefits and costs for a certain public transport project. The German evaluation method appeared to be very useful in this case study. The method gives a good assessment of possible public transport investments. The method necessitates the use of a system in which all important aspects are dealt with. Some important data were not completely available for the Dutch case studies. These included gain in journey time, and traffic safety. Therefore, the TNO Institute of Spatial Organization (INRO-TNO) made some estimations to fill in the gaps. The results of the case studies must therefore be seen in this perspective. Once more extensive studies have been carried out, resulting in better dacl, so that a definitive social cost-benefit analysis can be made.
