Abstract

Stations are thresholds in a journey and brings along disadvantages like loss of time, disutility and discomfort. In order to create a seamless interchange design for the future, thresholds must be eliminated, while attractive functions that create a pleasant atmosphere must be added. Four kinds of activities can be distinguished, which are separated in space. In the first layer the interchange takes place. The second layer is dedicated to retail activities. The third layer is meant for meeting places. The final layer consists of city activities like working and dwelling. (A)
