Abstract

In autumn 1981 the community of Amersfoort (+ 90.000 inh.) starts a fased plan to redesign a main shopping street in the city center into a pedestrian area. This research deals with the reaction of visitors on the change of the car-accessibility in terms of traffic generation distribution and modal split. The results show that the diminishing car accessibility of the city center practically did not effect the total amount of visits.
