Abstract

This paper deals with the approach of the municipality of The Hague to cope with the increasing traffic streams and resulting problems in and around this city. The policy view of the municipality on traffic and transport as it was formulated in a traffic plan developed in the year 1990 is briefly summarized. The main purpose of this plan is "car x 1". This means that the car use in The Hague until the period 1995 is not allowed to increase anymore: the level of traffic in the year 1995 should be the same as that of 1990. In the traffic plan, it is tried to improve the accessibility and environment of The Hague. Attention is also paid to a feasibility study into short-term projects conducted in the first half of the year 1991.
