Abstract

Owing to the limited resolving power of the hearing organ, the lower harmonics of a periodic pulse can be perceived separately, whereas the higher harmonics are heard together as one complex signal. It is found that higher harmonics are audible when spectrally absent. This rather paradoxical effect appears to be attributable to limitation of frequency resolving power of the car.
