Abstract

The goal of the study is to quantify the influence of petrol prices on transportation. The hypothesis is that the petrol price rises in the years 1979-1980 may have influenced both (car-) mobility and aspects of the fleet of cars. It is found that the risen petrol. costs have been (over-) compensated by reduced expenditure of households on car-purchase. The postponement of replacement has caused a (temporal) decline of new car sales. Furthermore there is a continuing transition to more economical types of fuel.
