Abstract

A building influences the propagation of sound both as a noise barrier and by reflection. Buildings can be used as a barrier when the sound levels behind the buildings have to be decreased. The influence of reflection is often negative. In areas in which a relative low sound level is obtained by screening, this level can be decreased by the reflecting facade. In this lecture the physical backgrounds are presented. Technical aids for the calculation and measurement of sound levels and methods which will be developed are discussed.
