Abstract

A possible method to prevent aquaplaning is to provide road surfaces with longitudinal grooves. In this study it was investigated how such grooves may influence the riding behaviour of motorcyclists compared with other types of road surface. The study was actuated by a fatal accident of a motor-cyclist in the Y-river tunnel that has grooved road surfaces, and the results of the study are presented.
