Abstract

This paper discusses the possible dangers and hindrance of wind turbines for road traffic. It appears that there is hardly any danger of the presence or working of wind turbines for road traffic. However, there are a number of wind turbine-related factors that can cause a hindrance for road traffic. These mainly include: (1) light flashes; (2) wind gusts; and (3) shock reactions. It is recommended to carry out a further study in order to gain more insight into a number of aspects related to the wind turbines' influence on the traffic safety. These aspects include: a) collision risk; b) wind hindrance; c) lighting effects; d) attentional distraction; e) shock reactions; and f) accidents.
