Abstract

The performance of regional road networks : a comparative research. The Netherlands’ national transport policy is currently under revision; improving travel time reliability will be one of the main goals for the next 15 years. We discuss some of the background and also mention the measures the National Road Administration (in Dutch: Rijkswaterstaat) has already in place or is now taking to improve travel time reliability on the motorway network. The Regional Network Research Programme, started in 2002, is aimed, among other things, at improving reliability as a network feature. In this paper we focus on a comparative research of regional road networks in The Netherlands, Germany and Engeland. Besides this we elaborate on an architecture for further (re)development of the regional road network. (Author/publisher)
