The use of modes of passenger transport at an early age can influence the use of these modes at an older age. This hypothesis is relevant for a policy directed at a reduction of car use. Formation of habits from students in the use of modes of transport before and after leaving school has been studied. Besides, the effects from changes in personal circumstances on travel behaviour before and after leaving school have been determined. The study has been done with the use of panel data from the Dutch Mobility Panel.
