Abstract

This paper describes an attempt to model the costs of urban public transport in the Netherlands. First, the model is explained theoretically. Then the results of empirical research on real data are shown. The main objective of making this model was to estimate cost-elasticities and to quantify scale and scope economics for urban transport firms in the Netherlands. The paper shows that by using the translog-cost-function, plausible and reasonable results can be achieved.
