Abstract

A review of the developments of monorail vehicles from coal cases used in mines in the 16th century to the monorail designed by Hitachi in Japan, which can reach a speed of 500 km-h and which is based on a system of repelling magnets, resulting in a perfectly silent form of transport which produces no harmful gas or vapor. Various types of drivers and a brief description of a few monorail sections are given.
