Abstract
More and heavier motorcycles are bought. The specific characteristics of motorcycles induce specific and deviant behaviour of motorcyclist, who can be said to form a sub-culture. Twice as many serious accidents per 1000 occur with motorcycles as with other motorized vehicles. Motorcycle accidents have certain typical characteristics. In an observational survey motorcyclist are found to exceed the speed limit more frequently than car drivers. Attention to vehicle handling and mental training in driver training and driving test is recommended.
