Abstract

Report on a study which tries to establish a relation between road and traffic characteristics on one hand and the safety of cyclists and moped riders on the other. This was done by means of a model, described elsewhere (Hamerslag & Roos), by which some hypotheses were tested. Conclusions are drawn on: width of carriageway where no cycle tracks arating vergie; with of carriageway where no cycle tracks are available; access roads to houses, etc.; type of road surface of the cycle tracks; type of road surface of the carriageway; parking bays and bus stops; road edge marking; length of sight; motor car traffic intensity; cycle and moped traffic intensity.
