Abstract

The interurban highway feasibility studies produced by Rijkswaterstaat in most cases meet with very intense reactions, not only from individuals directly involved, but also from nationwide environmental pressure groups. The question is whether the present official procedure to decide on the location of a new highway, including the research and opportunities for public participation are still adequate.
