Abstract

In France, it has been tried to decentralize preventive actions, in the form of contracts between the central government and local authorities. In view of the group of road users, the purpose of this is to decrease the number of accidents by 10% a year. Two national programmes determined in 1982 and intended to encourage local safety action are described, namely: (1) 'Réagir'; and (2) 'Objectif'.
