Abstract

In the discussion about almost traffic free areas, attention is focused on two specific residential areas at this moment, namely: residential yards (the woonerf) and thirty kilometre zones. It is investigated: (1) whether there has been a coherent policy of the central government for almost traffic free areas; and (2) how municipalities and inhabitants judge about thirty kilometre zones, and how these judgements relate to judgements about residential yards.
