Abstract

Spatial land use planning is one of the factors which affect the mobility of the Dutch people. On the basis of this idea, it is important not to go too far in separating residential and working areas from one another. In fact, stimulating the mixing of these two functions is one of the possible options for reducing car mobility. A search for working examples in mixing functions makes it quite clear that actually there are sound opportunities in reaching the desired mobility effects. However, the effects, same as mixing functions itself, are small in scale. Also, there are limitations because the tool itself is inadequate and possible negative effects could appear. By co-operation in the development of tools and policy co-ordination at the level of municipalities, it would be possible to turn limitations into opportunities. (A)
