Abstract

The behaviour of pedestrians when the light shows red is studied as well as the motives for such a behaviour. Aspects of safety and capacity and the risk of an accident when crossing the road are mentioned. Attention is given to the layout and the construction of pedestrian crossings. The study is mainly supported by a literature review and is a preliminary study for the research on ignoring the red light by pedestrians.
