Abstract

Dealing with concepts starts from the origin and role of concepts, being guiding images and opinions. Next, three ways to make concepts concrete are considered: (1) how can they be tested for their role in communication and culture; (2) how can they serve to emphasise strategy; and (3) how are they checked for their relevance? These perceptions of concepts result in a list of aspects to be applied to three types of proposed technology concepts: (a) underground freight distribution systems; (b) integrated personnel transport systems; and (c) automated guided vehicles (AVG).
