Abstract

Future traffic managers will have to perform a number of tasks that need to be optimized from a human factors point of view, before the traffic control center is actually developed. This report identifies significant task components, and discusses what type of investigation should be done in order to achieve optimization. The relevant issues are in the areas of task composition (the mix of routine and non-routine activities), incident anticipation, detection and management, and function allocation and decision support.
