Abstract

The report gives a summary description of the amount and development of traffic hazards in the netherlands during 1979-1980. The number of traffic deaths is 1977 which is the lowest number since 1962 (except for two years with extremely bad winters). The number of fatally injured cyclists in 1980 was higher than in 1979. The risk in traffic, the nature of traffic injuries and the effects of some specific measures are presented. The latter include the mandatory use of safety belts, the legislation on blood alcohol content, and the mandatory use of a red reflector on the rear side of the bicycle.
