Abstract
The number of traffic fatalities caused by collisions between railroad traffic and road traffic on level crossings numbered an average of 54 during 1980-1984 in the Netherlands. On the hand of a model of an accident process those factors which can play a role in such accidents are studied and their mutual correlation is analysed. Due to the natural propensity of all road users to react not alone on warning signals and traffic rules but also to act to their own judgement their decision process in such situations should be made easier.
