In this paper it is shown that the susceptibility to traffic hazards of mopeds and motorcyclists is much greater than that of other participants in traffic. Yet, factors influencing this high accident-rate are almost equal for both categories of participants. A short summary of these factors is presented. Possibilities of increasing the safety of moped- and motorcycle-users seem little. Only influencing the use of these types of vehicles might have an effect. It is stated that moped riders need a different approach compared with that of motorbike-users, especially when their mobility is taken into account.
