Abstract

The main purpose of the revision of the problem of traffic safety for elderly people is to set up a policy for the elderly. Therefore, recent data are compared with old data to get an indication of the continuity and stability of the data during the years and to detect eventual changes. Traffic accidents are not the main causes of death in this age group, but the lack of traffic safety in this group is greater than for other age groups. The relative high fatality risk for old people can be explained by a greater involvement in accidents with injury, a relatively great risk of injury and a relatively very high risk of death caused by accident injury. Most fatalities of old people are among the slow traffic participants. There are no real modifications in the periods studied, namely 1974-1977 and 1978-1982.
