Abstract
In recent years many cities throughout the world have implemented traffic plans aimed at making the city centres and residential areas more liveable and more accessible. Various research projects show that in general the resulting measures taken have had a positive effect on road safety. The results of these projects are used to suggest which measures should be taken and to comment on a number of possible measures.
