Abstract

This is the final report of a four-part study in preparation of research into the relationship between driving speeds and road safety. The report prepares for decision making on the research to be performed. The report contains brief summaries of the three preceding phases. The report discusses the most relevant selection considerations. These have been combined into four options for concrete projects. These projects could be described as follows: (1) research on motorways; (2) enforcement experiments on both highways and on important 80 km/h road connections; (3) comparative research on 80 km/h roads; and (4) comparative research on roads inside built-up areas. Various research methods in these composite projects are are combined in such a way that an optimal result may be expected per project. See also IRRD 868891-868893 (C 3153-C 3155).
