Abstract

Problems of people mover systems in highly congested areas such as densely populated centers of major cities are discussed. It is stated, that, although it is difficult to eliminate all such discontinuities completely, it is possible via technique to achieve a reasonable final speed with only a single velocity-interface joint involving a discrete speed change of 1.5 to 2.5 mph. In the forward direction only, as with an escalator.
