The use of accident experience as a factor in programming safety improvements, and efforts in the direction of computerization of priority selection procedures are reviewed. Future developments, which will use computerized methods to maximize fund allocation for safety improvements, are also discussed. Details are given of accident data compilation. Samples of accident printouts are presented. Accident data on hazardous locations, data collection on corrective activities, creation of accident history, corrective-action experience, benefit-cost file, and highway safety improvement priorities are other aspects covered in this booklet.
