Abstract

Visual delineation of the outline of the dynamic envelope occupied by light rail transit cars or trains as they travel along or across roadways and walkways was examined. An argument was formulated against the routine installation of delineation features, except in situations deemed beneficial. Conditions when such delineation on paving surfaces is useful were identified, as well as conditions when it is unnecessary and sometimes detrimental. Various methods to accomplish delineation were also addressed.
