Abstract

The paper compares briefly alternating current and direct current drive systems for electric vehicles in order to emphasize that it is difficult to benefit from the clear advantages of a.c. machines over d.c. machines because of the more complicated power controller required for variable frequency a.c. control. A three-phase inverter consists essentially of three regenerative choppers.
