Abstract

Short-term demand predictors are developed for a real-time traffic-response freeway control system. A time-series analysis is performed which employs a special methodology. The analysis is applied to three typical freeway stations: an entrance ramp, an exit ramp and a mainline station. Two types of predictors are investigated. A comparative and statistical analysis of the predictors is carried out, and the results are presented.
