Abstract
A background of the development of demand-responsive transportation (DRT) in small communities in the U.S.A. is given. Particular emphasis is placed upon the examination of the development of DRT in Rochester, U.S.A. and a demonstration project. The demonstration project has several key objects, the principal one of which is the integration of DRT with the fixed-route element of traditional transit.
