Abstract

In this paper the GERDIEN project is described. GERDIEN is aimed at the telematic infrastructure for Dynamic Traffic Management, in particular for interurban areas. The main objective is to develop a coherent framework for road traffic data collection and exchange. This framework must have an open architecture in which modular applications at all levels can be integrated. A part of this framework is implemenmted in a real world environment in the vicinity of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. In this pilot several applications will be implemented: network state monitoring and prediction, weigh-in-motion and weather monitoring and prediction. The project will result in recommendations for a set of telecommunication standards and for a number of applications in an integrated environment.
