Abstract

This report presents the results of field studies using test drivers in instrumented vehicles, supplemented by spot studies of the highway users at selected locations. Models are developed which, given a specific set of roadway characteristics, have the capability of predicting average speed selection, interaction of speed and roadway factors, and variation in speed selection due to inter- and intra- driver variability.
