Abstract

Although a lot of research is done regarding traffic safety, very little of the results reaches practising road engineers, and the object of this investigation was to give road engineers a summary of the relationships between road accidents, expressed in terms of the accident index (number of accidents per 1 million vehicle km), and various road and traffic parameters. The diagrams presented are more or less of a general character, and are to be regarded only as fairly rough approximations of the actual relationships.
