Abstract

Traffic flowing through a 6000-ft length of single lane tunnel roadway, with a bottleneck at the output end, is observed simultaneously at the terminal points and four intermediate points under a variety of conditions. Output flow is observed to vary significantly, but as a consistent function of input flow, section density, and output speeds. The behavior of gaps is described and the distribution of headway times is discussed.
