Abstract

The State of Florida initiated a program in October 2003 to develop a software system (known as SunGuide) that was to deployed in multiple Traffic Management Centers (TMCs). Each of these TMCs share basic functionality such as detection, camera control and message sign manipulation but due to the geographic differences and local transportation needs the SunGuideSM system also needs to support a number of capabilities that may not be sharedby all TMCs. Due to the number of significant hurricanes that impact the state of Florida, there was also a requirement to connect the different centers and provide command/control capability so that in the event of majorevacuation the capabilities of the center could be controlled remotely. This paper describes the system design, implementation and lessons learned from the deployment of the system. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
