Abstract

This paper presents the background, development, implementation, and future planning for the Advanced Traffic Management System for Auckland, New Zealand. The area to be managed includes the Auckland Harbour Bridge, a multi-lane bridge that sees over 160,00 vehicles a day, and an extensive road network whose peak traffic can be over 200,000 vehicles a day. Traffic congestion and highway safety are two primary concerns.
